On April 15th the first ReEnTrust Stakeholder Workshop took place at the Digital Catapult in London. The event was attended by stakeholders from various sectors from industry, by academics from multiple disciplines, representative of the Internet Society and one of the UK’s regulators with responsibilities in the digital domain.
Since this was the first of our workshops, taking place at an early stage of the project, the primary aim was to gain a broader understanding of the range of issues and perspectives that the various stakeholders bring to the topic of Trust regarding algorithmically mediated online services. To this end, the discussion was anchored by two case studies:
- Online shopping
- Holiday booking
The workshop produced some lively discussion and raised some new perspectives for us. We were especially interested to see how the stakeholders framed their discussion about trust of specific online services as seemingly inseparable from larger questions regarding the role of online platforms, data centred business models, and perceived gaps in regulation (or difficulties in the application of existing regulating).
All discussions were voice recorded. The recordings are now being transcribed and anonymised for subsequent analysis. A detailed report of the resulting qualitative analysis will be published on this site in due course.
Our sincerest thanks to all the participants.
