On 27 October 2019, Oxford team, Dr Jun Zhao and Dr Helena Webb, took part in the Oxford Idea Festival 2019, talking to members of the public about privacy, security, and digital wellbeing. The key goal of the event is to raise the awareness of these issues by the general public by exhibiting in a local shopping centre in East Oxford and reaching out to an audience who would normally be hard to reach otherwise. The exhibition was well-attended by several hundred people on the day.
As well as answering questions about how people use technology, the group solicited feedback from families about how happy they were with their use of technology. Responses included hopes and fears around everything from the overuse of smartphones and managing passwords to more futuristic questions about robots in the home.
By the end of the day, several hundred people had come through parts of the Templars Square shopping centre hosting stalls for the festival. Copies of digital wellbeing leaflets are available for download here:
